Ouida Washington
Producer | Washington-Koen Media

Ouida Washington is a film and video producer whose distinctive career includes award winning music videos, commercials, short and long form narratives. Ouida¹s focus in recent years has been in documentary storytelling, which she began as associate producer for the documentary components at the National Civil Rights Museum. This experience encouraged Ouida to become more civically engaged, leading her to NY¹s Children¹s Aid Society where she was Director of the Intel Computer Clubhouse, an after-school program using creative technology to build 21st century job skills. She later returned to documentary production by partnering with Derek Koen to form Washington Koen Media, a video production company with the expressed mission of producing high impact media that carry socially responsible messages. Beyond their work with non-profit and foundation clients, they developed and produced their own projects including Beyond the Brick, which focused on addressing the longstanding issues that contribute to the poor academic performance among young black males. This documentary, focused in Newark spurred a successful engagement project that was a pioneering component of the Campaign for Black Male Achievement, who later spearheaded President Obama¹s My Brother¹s Keeper Initiative.
